- Oil Cleanser: Totally only did this once or twice, if at all: Shu Umeura High Balancing Cleansing Oil. It just seems unneccessary, even though I know it's best for taking off the scuzz that sunscreen leaves behind on my face.
- Eyelid Cleanser: It turns out that I am prone and very susceptible to blepharitis. Yeah, no fun. Also, according to that resource, it's for life, and therefore I need to maintain proper eyelid hygiene. My doctor sent me home with a terrible photocopy and suggested I purchase a large bottle of self-foaming Ocusoft. The direction on the bottle just says to rub lids back and forth (gently) WHICH IS GIVING ME ANXIETY BECAUSE IT MEANS GENTLY TUGGING AT MY EYE SKIN. Which means, more self-induced wrinkles aside from the ones I get from squinting all the time and forgetting to wear sunglasses. The label my doctor's office pasted on says to do this for 3-4 minutes. I can hardly brush my teeth for that long and they want me tugging on my eyelids daily this way? Ugh, the whole process is terrible and I wonder how long it's really going to last.
- Water-based Cleanser: Just sum37's Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick, even got my sister into it. She loves the light rose smell too.
- First Essence: My FTE BAE: Missha's FTE Intensive. Literally my "Before Anything Else." Though I was away for the long weekend and used the Missha Clear Toner and FTE in tandem, and realized how much I actually missed the Clear Toner, which I originally thought it was nothing too special.
- Toner: Shopped locally and got ripped off. Paid ~$21 for a bottle of CosRx's AHA/BHA Clarifying Toner that I could have gotten for under $14 on Amazon. It was also bought on a whim, so not only did I get ripped off money-wise, but I also was mislead by the name of the toner. I thought that this would be a slight chemically exfoliator with trace amounts of AHA/BHA in the mix. While it does have a ridiculously low ph that other bloggers have noted been under 4, it is actually not an exfoliator . In fact, it's just prep for the actual actives for your face, which is making me think if I should add a Vitamin C active, even though they're not always the most stable, especially in the heat. And summer's pretty much at the front door these days, which is bad news for shipping this sort of product. Used The Face Shop's Chia Water 100 toner maybe once or twice, on my cheeks/dry spots only. Dropped the bottle from out of the medicine cabinet though, and chipped the top of my toilet tank. The bottle did not crack, and I actually cannot figure out if that is a fortunate or unfortunate occurrence.
- Serum or essence: Although it's technically a cream, it's an AIO that can for before creams/serums/ampoules/etc. So with the teensy bit that left, Mizon - All in One Snail Repair Cream (75ml) has been promoted to earlier in the skincare routine. Next week, when it should be done with it, I will be introducing SCINIC's Honey AIO ampoule, which, if it makes me too greasy, I will probably reintroduce the Retinoid Diaries again.
- Masks: Even though I am still suffering from hormonal left side of my chin acne, I have not gone mask crazy as I did last week. This week was super minimal and I think I may have only tried out one mask, a random $5.99 for ten masks found on a shelf randomly: Welcos Jeju Natural Volcanic Mask. Smelled great, but little leftover serum. Don't know if it actually did anything for my pores, but I got ten of these so I'm going to use them!
- Moisturizer:
AM: Aveeno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer SPF 30. But it's been so hot lately, I realize that I have been reaching for my alcoholic Biore sunscreens, and layering instead.
PM :Mizon - All in One Snail Repair Cream (75ml) layered under Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream. The Gel Cream is supposed to be the last step in a routine, even though I was initially concerned because if its gel rather than cream-like texture. The squeeze tube is much smaller than I had anticipated, and also because it is a squeeze tube, I have been using it quite liberally and wonder if it's going to be used up too quickly. I especially been gobbing it on to my hormonal acne spots, and I can't tell if the double snail products is helping, or if my hormones are balancing themselves out (eventually?) and it's just time making these bumps go away. The right side of my face is about 90% better, but my left side is still a concern. - Sunscreen: MDW has just passed and summer came to our door knocking, like, HELLOOOOOO! Totally humid and totally hot, and yet I can't stop wearing full-length leggings! Anyway, since the heat is back with a vengeance, my usual 2-in-1 Aveeno moisturizer/sunscreen has not been my favorite. Now I find myself reaching for my most recent purchase of the cult favorite Biore Aqua Rich Waterly Essence Sunscreen 50g Spf50+ Pa+++, which goes on and keeps my face super smooth, almost unnaturally. It's so odd, to feel like I had matte-fied my face, but I can see why people love it so much. Then there is my cheap $100 NT ($3 USD) sunscreen that is chockfull of alcohol, but has become my favorite when I lived back in Taiwan and needed sun protection always. Biore UV Super UV Milk SPF 48 PA+++ (which I could only find via YesStyle or ebay) is cheap! It's a milk, and just dribbles through a tipped nozzle in solid white. Though it sounds weird, it has been my go-to for years. Due to it's "milk" nature, and it's possibly high alcohol content, it goes on wet, but then dries super quickly. This has been my favorite because it's affordable (I go through these little bottles like crazy) and because when I sweat buckets (especially on a dragon boat race day), I can reapply it to my face without feeling my face is on fire. Many other sunscreens cannot be reapplied to my face mid-day mid-sweat because of this reaction. My face doesn't get red or inflamed looking, but I when I use the wrong sunscreen I feel like I just want to claw the pain off my face. It's awful, and it has taken many different sunscreens to find what works for me.
So that wraps up the week-- eyelid cleanser, two new products, and alternative sunscreens taking precedence over my usual.
